A vocal coach's view
Vocal coach Adam Baruell reviewed Chathurya's Blind Audition on his YouTube channel. He singled out the control and tone of her voice, the subtle riffs and runs woven through the song, and her command of head voice as the melody climbs into falsetto. He called the melody catchy and memorable, and summed it up as a stellar audition.
- "I love the control of her voice and also the tonality on it. Absolutely awesome."
- "There's a lot of mini riffs and runs that you can almost hear, but really, really subtle, and it takes a lot of technique."
- "That was a stellar audition for Chathurya Sandabarana singing හීතල වන්නියේ."

Education
BSc (Hons) Aerospace Engineering
First Class Honours, Kingston University London, 2026
When a spacecraft comes back to Earth, it hits the atmosphere at around 25 times the speed of sound, and its outer surface heats to well over 1,500°C. Chathurya works on materials that can survive that heat, using computer simulations of the airflow around the vehicle (CFD) and of how heat travels through its structure (FEA), so engineers can predict how a design behaves before anything is built.
Research areas
- Ultra-high-temperature alloys for space re-entry vehicles
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Heat-dissipation analysis integrated with finite element analysis (FEA)
Why her work matters to everyone
- Safer journeys home
Better heat shields protect astronauts and spacecraft on the most dangerous part of the trip.
- Cheaper access to space
Spacecraft that survive re-entry can be reused, which lowers the cost of launching the satellites behind GPS, weather forecasts, internet and disaster warnings.
- Everyday engineering
The same heat-resistant materials and simulation methods help make jet engines, power stations and vehicles more efficient, using less fuel.
